I finished the book today and I’m so impressed with it. Don had a wonderful writing style and knew how to keep the reader engaged. His research is amazing and he keeps the story flowing, even in the midst of identifying places, people, battles, and hardships.
It was very touching to see the names of the surrounding towns, where war was waged. Several of the names of the soldiers are familiar. From the very beginning, with the boys taking up arms in Calhoun, he followed them through, until the end of the war and into some recovery.
Most people have no idea about all the Civil War battles fought in Kentucky or about the brave Kentucky men, who fought here for the Union.
